American Ambassador to Rwanda and IOWD

Stuart Symington, American Ambassador to Rwanda, has been a "friend" of IOWD since our days in Niger. It was Ambassador Symington who suggested that Executive Director, Barbara Margolies visit Rwanda to see how fabulous the country is. Ambassador's intention was to get IOWD to begin a program in Kigali. On a preliminary visit to Rwanda in January 2010, Ambassador Symington and his wife hosted Barbara and her husband at his home; he introduced them to Rwandans and other organizations in the health field; he talked about the fantastic steps that were being taken to rebuild this beautiful country. He was positive it would be the right "fit" IOWD and Rwanda. And, of course he was right!!!

Ambassador Symington has always been supportive of IOWD's work. He has taken the time to visit our teams at Kibagabaga Hospital. On every mission, for the past year, he and his lovely wife, Susan, have opened their home to our teams, and hosted receptions in our honor.

IOWD is proud of our work in Rwanda and we are proud that Ambassador Symington continues to support us and recognize our work. We are deeply grateful for his friendship and respect.
